On Sunday, 19.12.2021, a team from Ramakrishna Mission, Imphal, visited Mercy Home Care Centre, P. Kamdouveng, Tuibong, Churachandpur Dt., at a distance of around 60 Kms from Imphal. The Centre is being run by Franciscan Clarist Sisters, who are taking care of 57 destitute children in their center.
The Sisters very cordially welcomed and introduced us to the children, who presented a welcome song & a dance performance to express their Joy on our visit. 45 blankets, 26 trousers, and 24 pairs of socks were provided to the home for the use of the inmates. All the children were also given muffin cakes.
Later, the team also visited Happiness Home, a shelter home located in Tangnuam area, around 5 kms further away from Mercy home, and houses 60 orphan children. The shelter home is being run by Brother Rama & his family, in individual capacity. We were informed that all the children are home tutored due to various factors, but, mainly due to social stigma associated with these orphans. After preliminary introduction the inmates were presented with 45 nos blankets, 50 trousers, 12 pairs of socks and muffin cakes.
Both the visits were made on request of, and facilitated by Col. (Retd.) Christopher Rego, founder CEO of Sunbird Trust, Bangalore, who has served for a long time in Manipur during his service years. Having first hand experience of the plight of children in conflict areas, he is now trying to spread education in remote & conflict affected areas in NE States, especially, Manipur.
